Common ground

Afternoon tea at the Common Ground x Marimekko Pop Up Cafe with my friends today. Really liking the Nordic Open Club Sandwich & Common Ground Toast on their special menu, oh and of course the flowery decorations too! The Pop Up Cafe is opened until 23rd June.

My friends and I then headed to the Old Police Married Quarters (PMQ), which now revitalised into an art & culture place for the creative industries. There are art products, clothes, homewares, cafes, jewelries and accessories. This place just opened recently and there is also Night Market occasionally.

What a lovely place to visit. The next Night Market will be on 25-27 July (Fri: 6-11pm, Sat: 5-11pm, Sun: 12-5pm).

Cafe: 19 Shing Wong Street, Central
PMQ: 35 Aberdeen Street, Central

Capela dos Ossos

Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) is quite a bizarre attraction in Faro, Portugal, and is not for the faint-hearted. It situated inside the church named Igreja do Carmo. You'll enter the chapel through a courtyard into the back of the church. The chapel is lined with ~1245 skulls and bones. Entrance fee is 1 Euro.

When I was there, a person told me that the bones chapel was built because there was no land to keep/bury the deceased at that time. I am not sure if that was a rumor or not.

>>Please note there are bone pictures that may cause uncomfortableness<<

Till next time,
Jenny

Floral Trail to Wave Rock

Western Australia wildflowers attract tourists from all around the world every year between June and November. Why not plan a trip to Wave Rock now before the wildflower season ends?

Last year, we had a 1 day road trip to Wave Rock in September (2 friends were driving).

Route: Perth --> York --> Quairading --> Bruce Rock --> Narembeen --> Hyden --> Wave Rock --> Karlgarin --> Kondinin --> Corrigin --> Brookton --> Armadale --> Perth

Remember to stop by Hyden to meet the tin men.

You can walk a rather steep slope and be on top of Wave rock. There's a reservoir on top of the rock.
Near the Wave Rock is the Hippo Yawn.

On a side note, there is usually wild flower exhibitions in Kings Park in Perth, be sure to check it out too :)

Black Truffle Hunting

It's winter now in Australia and the peak season of black truffle hunting! Join me to find one of the world's most prized and intriguing delicacies!

Truffle is a type of fungus that grows beneath the base of oak and hazelnut trees. Truffle is nurtured by the thread-like mycelium attached to the tree roots, and starts developing during spring-time. To grow and ripen they need the right environmental temperature and avoid direct sunlight.

My first truffle digging was a sublime experience. We were led by a guide and the nose of a friendly and exciting truffle dog. We then unearthed the truffle carefully next to the oak & hazelnut trees. There's a distinct scent in the air and was significantly stronger when soil was loosened. The first one was demonstrated by the guide and we got to get our hands dirty afterwards.

It was a fun and educational tour, courtesy of The Wine & Truffle Co.
I would recommend wearing water-proof pants or an overall like I did that day, as you will be kneeing down on the rather damp soil. They provide boots for your convenience.
